From March 3rd to March 5th, the UCSD Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta presented a series of panels regarding the law school admissions process. Working together with Phi Alpha Delta alumni, LSAT Preparation Companies and deans from prestigious law schools in California, the chapter launched its first “Tridents to Gavels” event, its mission to further educate students who are interested in pursuing a legal career. Day 1: Financial Aid and Alumni Panel
The first day of Tridents to Gavels was split into two panels: the Financial Aid panel led by Mark Berman from Thomas Jefferson School of Law and Jorge Garcia from the University of San Diego Law School, and the Alumni panel led by Sam Weissman from University of San Diego Law School, Chelsea Guay and Erica Bloom from Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
For the Financial Aid Panel, Berman and Garcia advised students on what types of financial aid they could receive to pay for their law school education.
For the Alumni Panel, students were given the opportunity to hear from current law school students about their experiences. There was a Q&A session for students to ask the alumni and address their concerns about law school.
Day 2: LSAT Bootcamp
Four LSAT test preparation companies (Kaplan, Princeton Review, ManhattanLSAT, and Blueprint) took part in Day 2 of Tridents to Gavels. Each company was allowed some time to advertise the unique aspect of their company. Later on, participants were broken up into groups and each company gave a small preview of their LSAT class.
Day 3: Deans’ Night: Admission
On the 3rd day of Tridents to Gavels, distinguished members of the law schools, ranging from UC Berkeley, University of San Diego, UC Irvine, Thomas Jefferson, UC Hastings, and University of Southern California, came to talk about the admissions process and give advice about law schools.
